I made a SNAFU (Situation Normal All F****d Up) while I was working on the applique pattern on the Tree of Life quilt I am working on. Working late into the night last night I was so engrossed in “stitch stitch stitch…..” that I did not realize the lighting was not quite good enough to accurately see what I was doing. Woke up this morning to look at the piece I had finished off before bed and groaned.

If you look closely (or not so close) at the edge of the yellow and orange here, then you will see that the applique work has tiny little black threads showing along the edge of the work.

Yes, I did. I used black thread to sew the yellow applique piece to the white background fabric. And I did it in dim lighting so I did not even realize I had effed up until this morning when I picked the thing up to look it over and get started again.

So, what did I do? As tempting as it was to tear all the black out and start over, I instead got out the yellow embroidery threads and am working my way around the area with the correct color to resew the section and eradicate the black that shows up.

Were I to sell this quilt for a few thousand dollars as a work of art I would toss it and start from scratch to do it all properly, but I am making it to be used and abused, so the double stitch work will only add to the strength of the little flower in the long run.

I missed getting an entry into the Alaska State Fair this year, which is kind of a bummer to me. I had not really realized just how fast the year was going past, then the news suddenly announced that the fair is starting and I was not sure just where that came from. Seems like it should only be early spring, but here we are going into fall now.

I need to find the time to get back into working on things with the polymer clay, but just never seem to find the time to work on any clay projects anymore. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to get back to it soon, just find it really annoying that I missed out on getting anything entered in the fair. Ah well, there’s always next year, huh?

I was working on a new figure today, no real plot on it other than just playing around, and determined that the legs on it were way too short. The torso was long and slender and the arms were long and very slender and there were the legs, short and stubby. Needed to fix that.

My fix was to take the clay off the legs up to the waist and then rebend the figure at the waist, shortening the torso a bit and giving more leg wire to use for the legs. I also added slightly to the leg that is up on the ledge to reinforce the bent ankle and foot there.

Another change was to shorten the arm by bending the hand back into the wrist and thereby shortening the arm by the length of the hand and rebend the arm to move the elbow back a little. Last change, the neck. I took needle nosed pliers and pinched in the neck, lifting a little so that the figure had a longer sleeker neck on it.

I think the new figure looks better, don’t you?
